LINGUISTIC TOURISM IN SPAIN
For quite some years now international students of Spanish have
been coming to University towns in Spain to combine leisure and
the study of the Spanish language. We are now promoting this kind
of linguistic tourism in Madrid and other cities and expand
the offer not only to students but also to travellers, tourists
and visitors of Spain who are interested in our language. Madrid
and many other cities have a great deal to offer to the foreign
traveller who intends to visit Spain with a view to approaching
Spanish culture and language: gastronomy, natural environments,
monuments, art, entertainment, sport, lectures, etc.
Thus we have devised various programmes to allow visitors to take
full advantage of their stay. Our Spanish monitors will accompany
them to various interesting places: city tours, museums, restaurants
and cafes, cinema and theatre, shopping malls, excursions to neighbouring
towns, etc. where they will be exposed to authentic everyday language
and culture. These activities will be supplemented with communicative
Spanish lessons to systematise the knowledge acquired through interaction
and exposure. Monitoring and tuition time will vary depending on
the training modality travelling students were to choose.
These linguistic immersions are programmed for a maximum length
of one week (7days) but can be adapted on demand.
ORGANISATION PROCEDURES:
- Prior to their trip the visitors/students will be given
a placement test to assess their level of Spanish.
- They will also
be requested to fill in a form in which they are asked to
provide information on their needs, preferences, habits,
etc.
- They will
be presented with an activity plan and schedule during their
stay.
- Once they are settled in their hotel/accommodation in
Spain they will be contacted by our organisation, and monitor/s
will be assigned
IMMERSION PLAN:
The immersion plans are provided individually or for small family
groups with compatible interests.
The students meet their monitor at their hotel/residence and carry
out the activity plan agreed for the day.
The visits and outings are supplemented with more “formal” sessions
where the students have the opportunity to systematise the linguistic
input they are exposed to and have acquired through their interactive
experience in the city: grammar and vocabulary, reading and writing,
speaking and listening, all skills are practised by means of communicative
and functional pedagogical tasks suited to students’ level
and needs.
